Increased membership activity calls for a name that reflects today's organisation.
Samverk is one of the largest trade unions in the Faroe Islands. The goal is to bring together shop workers, salespeople, office staff, technical employees, and other professional groups in comparable fields. In addition, the union aims to unite apprentices in the same sectors topromote shared interests.
The union was originally founded in 1940 and was active until 1945. In 1973, it was re-established and has since been a vital part of the Faroese labour market. The union now has over 1,500 members.
Around 70% of the members are women.
The old name, S&K Felagið, was no longer suitable. It was an abbreviation for Office and Shop Workers, but today the union represents many other professional groups as well. The new name allows all members to identify with it.
The name "Samverk" has two meanings. It signifies both cooperation and the results that cooperation creates. Action and outcome. The name, therefore, emphasises that through collaboration, the best results are achieved.
The name fits the union well. The membership is highly diverse and represents many professions, but they all share the same union. Different people, different professions, one union. Hence, Samverk.
With the new name, the union feels well-prepared for the future.
Welcome to Samverk.
